PITTSBURGH, Nov. 29, 2010 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- United States Steel Corporation (NYSE: X) today announced two management changes at its European and North American operating facilities.

Mark G. Tabler has been named vice president-operations at U. S. Steel Kosice, the company's steelmaking subsidiary in the Slovak Republic.  Tabler succeeds Patrick J. Mullarkey, who was recently named president of United Spiral Pipe, the company's large-diameter spiral welded pipe manufacturing joint venture located in Pittsburg, Calif.  James F. Dudek will succeed Tabler as plant manager-Clairton Plant.  The changes are effective Dec. 1.

In his new role, Tabler will be responsible for oversight of day-to-day operations at the Slovakian subsidiary's facilities.  Tabler, 49, joined U. S. Steel in November 2006 as director-coke battery assessment at the company's Pittsburgh headquarters.  Prior to arriving at U. S. Steel, he spent 19 years at AK Steel, where he advanced through increasingly responsible management positions, including general manager of the company's Butler (Pa.) Works and its Ashland (Ky.) Works.  Tabler was appointed to his most recent position, plant manager-Clairton Plant, in March 2008.

As plant manager of U. S. Steel's Clairton Plant, Dudek will oversee the coking and coal chemical operations at the company's largest coke making facility located near Pittsburgh.  Dudek, 36, began his U. S. Steel career in 1996 as a management associate in quality assurance at the company's Gary Works in Gary, Ind.  He advanced first through multiple positions in quality assurance and then roles of increasing management responsibility in several areas of Gary's finishing operations before being named division manager-sheet products at the plant in July 2007.  He advanced to his most recent post, division manager-hot rolling at Gary Works, in November 2007.

Dudek graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1996 with a bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering.  Dudek, his wife, Sarah, and their son will relocate to the Pittsburgh area.
