United States Steel Corporation will kick off its Pittsburgh-area 2010 United Way employee campaign by hosting its annual Party on the Plaza event Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010, from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on the plaza outside the U. S. Steel Tower.  The event, which is in its fifteenth year and is open to the public, is the largest one-day fundraising event for the United Way of Allegheny County.

"U. S. Steel employees are committed to helping the communities where we live and work, and Party on the Plaza is no exception," said Doug Matthews, vice president – tubular operations for U. S. Steel and chairman of the company's 2010 United Way campaign.  "We are proud to host this event each year and are committed to supporting the United Way of Allegheny County's efforts to address southwestern Pennsylvania's most critical health and human services needs."

Games, raffles and a large, prize-filled silent auction are just some of the activities available to Partygoers.  All proceeds from the day's events benefit the United Way of Allegheny County.  Local celebrities will also be on hand to sign autographs and pose for pictures.  Scheduled to appear at the event are: Andy Russell, former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker (1963, 1966-1976); Wendy Bell, WTAE-TV news anchor; Julie Bologna, WPXI-TV meteorologist; David Johnson, WPXI-TV news anchor; mascots from the Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Penguins; Mr. McFeely of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood; and Ellis Cannon, host of "The Ellis Cannon Sports Business Report" on KQV Newsradio 1410 AM and president and publisher of The Pittsburgh Sports Report.
