Katherine Lawrence Joins U. S. Steel as Manager-State Governmental Affairs for Illinois and Minnesota

PITTSBURGH, Dec. 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- United States Steel Corporation (NYSE: X) announced today that Katherine Lawrence has joined the company as manager-state governmental affairs and will represent U. S. Steel's interests before state and local government in Illinois and Minnesota. U. S. Steel operates iron ore mines and pelletizing facilities in Mountain Iron and Keewatin, Minn., and an integrated steelmaking facility in Granite City, Ill., where Lawrence will be based. Lawrence reports to Christopher J. Masciantonio, general manager-state governmental affairs.

Her broad-based knowledge of local, state and federal issues combined with her extensive understanding of the political and legislative processes will be a tremendous asset for U. S. Prior to joining the company, Lawrence was president and owner of KML Consulting, a governmental relations firm based in Springfield, Ill. From 1994 to 2002, she served as the director of Government Affairs for the Illinois Manufacturers' Association. She also served as the legislative liaison for the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency under former Gov. Jim Edgar. Lawrence earned a bachelor's degree in communications with a minor in political science from Eastern Illinois University.
