United States Steel International Announces Two Appointments for May 2002

Donald L. Foster, president of United States Steel International, Inc. (USSI), a subsidiary of United States Steel Corporation, announced the appointments of Carl J. Minucci to vice president of sales and technical services, and Dean C. Mooney to manager of sales and technical services for automotive applications. Both appointments were effective May 2002.

Minucci, a native of the Pittsburgh area, received a bachelor's degree in metallurgy and materials science from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. in 1974.

He began his career with U. S. Steel in 1974 as Quality Assurance supervisor at the corporation's Fairless Works near Philadelphia, Pa. In 1976, he was transferred to the Mon Valley Works outside Pittsburgh, Pa., where he moved through a series of positions with increasing responsibility in the Quality Assurance department. He was promoted to manager-Quality Assurance at Fairfield Works near Birmingham, Ala. in 1986.

In 1989, Minucci was transferred to headquarters in Pittsburgh where he was named manager-sales and technical services for USSI. In 1995, he was appointed manager-sales, tin plate products for U. S. Steel.

The following year, Minucci was promoted to general manager-sales for USX Engineers and Consultants, Inc. (UEC), a subsidiary of U. S. Steel, and served in that capacity until his recent appointment.

In his new assignment, based at headquarters, Minucci will oversee the sales of U. S. Steel's domestic products to international customers.

A Chicago native, Mooney earned a bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering from Michigan Technical University in 1985 and a master's degree in management from Purdue University in 1992.

Mooney began his service in 1985 as a management associate in the Quality Assurance department at U. S. Steel's headquarters in Pittsburgh. He was transferred to Gary Works in 1987 where he moved through a number of positions in the Quality Assurance department until 1999, when he was promoted to technical manager-products at U. S. Steel's Automotive Center in Troy, Mich. In 2001, he returned to headquarters to serve as technical industrial manager- automotive for USSI.

In his new assignment at the Automotive Center in Troy, Mooney is responsible for international sales and technical services for automotive applications.
