United States Steel Announces Treasury Appointments

United States Steel LLC, part of the USX-U. S. Steel Group (NYSE: X), a unit of USX Corporation, announced a series of appointments for the anticipated January 1 start-up of United States Steel Corporation.

A new organization, headed by Albert E. Ferrara, Jr., senior vice president & treasurer, will be responsible for all finance, strategic planning/business development, risk management, credit, collection and cash management activities of United States Steel Corporation. The organization will coordinate all banking and financial relationships.

David C. Greiner will be assistant treasurer--cash & banking, the post he currently holds with USX Corporation.

William S. Smith will be director--corporate risk management, the post he currently holds with USX.

Larry T. Brockway has been named assistant treasurer--corporate finance. He succeeds Michael J. Hatcher, who was appointed assistant controller-- corporate accounting, reporting to Gretchen R. Haggerty, senior vice president & controller.

A Pittsburgh native, David C. Greiner, 45, graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1977 with a bachelor's degree in finance. In 1988, he earned an MBA from Robert Morris College. Greiner began his career with the corporation in 1977 in the accounting & finance department. After various assignments at the Pittsburgh Service Center, Homestead Works and audit division, he was appointed manager--realty lending with USX Credit Corporation in June 1993. In 1996, Greiner was named manager--note financing for USX Corporation and subsequently promoted to the position of director--corporate finance in 1999. He was appointed director--strategic planning in July 2000 and was named assistant treasurer--cash & banking for USX Corporation in December 2000.

William S. Smith, 57, is a native of Findlay, Ohio. He joined USX in its Marathon Oil Company subsidiary as an economist in 1968 following graduate work at Ohio State University and an undergraduate degree at Miami University. He subsequently earned an MBA degree from Bowling Green State University. After a series of positions in petroleum economics, production international, financial planning and insurance, Smith was transferred to USX Corporation in Pittsburgh as manager of risk management for energy. In 1996, he assumed his current position as director--corporate risk management for USX Corporation. He has been a member of the board of directors of Oil Insurance Limited since 1987 and currently serves on O.I.L.'s executive and audit committees.

Larry T. Brockway, 42, is a native of Ashtabula, Ohio and holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. He began his career in 1982 as an accountant with Marathon Oil Company in Findlay, Ohio and held various accounting posts there and in Houston, Texas. He was transferred to USX Corporation's Pittsburgh headquarters in 1997 when he was appointed manager--structured finance. He was named director-- corporate finance in 2000 and was appointed director--strategic planning later that year.
