USX Engineers and Consultants, Inc. (UEC), a subsidiary of United States Steel Corporation (NYSE: X), today announced that effective July 1, 2002 it has changed its name to UEC Technologies LLC to sharpen its brand presence and strengthen its position as a dynamic leader in the metals and related industries.

For more than 30 years, the company has served manufacturing and process industries worldwide with state-of-the-art technologies and engineering services. The goal of the organization -- helping to build solid and profitable facilities -- can be seen through the many successful projects the company has completed in over 50 countries.

"UEC has long been one of the first companies manufacturers turn to for industry-specific information technology solutions, technical services, laboratory services, and much more," states Chris Navetta, President, UEC Technologies LLC "The new name, UEC Technologies, provides a common identity for all of our business units, each of which is focused on a specific core technology. The new name and logo ties together the outstanding technologies of each unit into one solid brand."

The company currently operates three separate business units (UEC Tech Services, UEC IT, and UEC Labs) and a wholly owned subsidiary. (Met-Chem Canada, Inc.) UEC Tech Services provides engineering, training, facility development, and other technologies for the metals and process industries. UEC IT is a leading provider of eCommerce, order fulfillment, and supply chain management systems as well as business process consulting, offshore development, and professional services. UEC Labs offers five distinct laboratory services including industrial hygiene, analytical chemistry, fuels and lubricant analysis, coal and coke, and conditional monitoring. Met-Chem Canada provides engineering and technical assistance for the mining, metallurgical, and mineral processing industries.

"The name change reflects UEC's current push to introduce new technology designed to better serve the needs of our customers," states Navetta. "We will continue to extend the capabilities and offerings of UEC in order to remain the technology and engineering services provider of choice."
