Craig D. Mallick is Named General Manager - Public Affairs for USX Corporation

Craig D. Mallick has been named general manager-Public Affairs and assistant general counsel for USX Corporation, it was announced today by Thomas J. Usher, chairman and CEO.

Mallick will be responsible for the public affairs activities of USX Corporation and its principal operating units, and will continue reporting to Dan D. Sandman, general counsel, secretary and senior vice president-Human Resources & Public Affairs. In addition, he will assume the responsibilities of general manager of the USX Foundation, which provides grants to organizations and projects benefiting charitable, medical-health, and educational, civic, cultural and scientific endeavors.

Mallick, 48, takes over the Public Affairs and Foundation activities from James L. Hamilton, III, who completes a 39-year career with USX with his retirement on April 30. Mallick was born in Pittsburgh and raised in Birmingham, Ala. He was graduated from Duke University with a bachelor of science degree in 1975 and earned a JD degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1979.

After joining USX in 1979 as an attorney at the Pittsburgh headquarters, Mallick was named general attorney in 1987. In 1993, he was appointed assistant secretary and director- shareholder relations for USX. In January 2001, he was named assistant general counsel-Administrative & Corporate Law Services.

He is a member of the American Society of Corporate Secretaries, the American Bar Association and the American Corporate Counsel Association.

A native of Collingswood, N. J., James L. Hamilton, III holds a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Bucknell University, Lewisburg, Pa. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps as an officer.

Hamilton joined USX Corporation in 1962 as a commercial trainee. He remained in the commercial department until March 1969, when he took a leave of absence to accept an appointment as special assistant to the Secretary of the Interior and later, as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce.

Returning to USX in 1973, Hamilton joined the environmental control department in Pittsburgh as assistant director, environmental control, advancing to manager, environmental control in 1974.

In 1979, he was transferred to Washington, D.C. as manager, governmental affairs with primary responsibility for environmental, energy, transportation and natural resource legislation.

In 1987, Hamilton was named general manager governmental affairs-energy, managing USX energy interests in Washington, D.C. and in 30 states.

Hamilton was transferred to Pittsburgh as general manager- Public Affairs for USX in 1989 and the following year assumed additional responsibilities as general manager of the USX Foundation.
