U. S. Steel To Kick Off United Way Campaign

Pirate All-Star Jason Bay and many local celebrities will attend this year's celebration.

United States Steel Corporation (NYSE: X) will kick off its United Way campaign at its annual U. S. Steel/United Way "Party on the Plaza" on Sept. 15, 2006 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Attending this year's celebration will be Pirate All-Star Jason Bay and several local media personalities including: WTAE-TV News Anchor Sally Wiggin; WTAE-TV News Anchor Andrew Stockey; WTAE-TV News Anchor Kelly Frey; WPXI-TV Meteorologist Kevin Benson; WPXI-TV News Reporter Kimberly Easton; and KDKA-TV News Anchor John Cater. Also scheduled to participate in the festivities will be Dwayne Woodruff, 1979 Super Bowl Champion Steeler; WAMO-FM morning show hosts Anji and GQ; SportsLine Pittsburgh talk show host Ellis Cannon of FM NewsTalk 104.7 and the musical group "Dancing Queen."

For the past 12 years U. S. Steel has hosted the event, which is one of the largest one-day fundraisers for the United Way of Allegheny County with proceeds benefiting many local communities and families.

U. S. Steel Chairman and Chief Executive Officer John P. Surma, is serving as this year's Chairman of the United Way Campaign in Allegheny County. "I'm honored this year to serve as the Chairman of the United Way Campaign in Allegheny County. With our employees' strong support, we will again demonstrate the true spirit of giving back to our communities and creating lasting change in people's lives."

Surma added, "For more than 100 years, United States Steel has been making our mark by supplying the best steel that can be produced in the safest way possible. Just as our company has been a leader in providing quality products and in keeping our people safe, United Way has been a leader in getting funding to agencies that are impacting critical community needs. United Way and its predecessors have been at the leading edge of this effort in Southwestern Pennsylvania for more than 70 years."

The party, which takes place on the plaza of the U. S. Steel Tower, begins at 11 a.m. and concludes at 3 p.m. Celebrity photos and autographs, games, raffles, food and more will be available at the party.
