USX Vice President and Treasurer E. F. Guna to Retire

USX Corporation (NYSE: X)(NYSE: MRO) announced today that Vice President and Treasurer Edward F. Guna has indicated that he has elected to retire from the corporation following the anticipated separation of USX Corporation's steel and energy businesses into two free-standing companies. He has more than 31 years of service in the corporation's Accounting and Finance Department and has been treasurer of the corporation since 1998 and previously was vice president-Accounting and Finance for U. S. Steel.

Commenting on the announcement, Thomas J. Usher, chairman of the board and chief executive officer said, "Ed Guna has provided invaluable service to the corporation. His leadership of the treasury department and his direction of a variety of financing activities helped provide continuing stability of the corporate balance sheet. Ed also represented the corporation with distinction in a number of important community activities."

Guna has agreed to join the transition team that will be responsible for closing out the financial affairs of USX Corporation, beginning January 1, 2002.

A Pittsburgh area native, Guna, 52, was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate from Washington and Jefferson College (Washington, Pa.) in 1970 with a bachelor's degree in mathematics. In 1974, he earned an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh.

He began his career with the corporation in 1970 in the Accounting and Finance department. After a series of assignments at the Mon Valley steel plants and corporate headquarters in Pittsburgh, he was named assistant manager-accounting at the Edgar Thomson-Irvin Works in 1980. Guna took a leave in 1981 to participate in the President's Commission on Executive Exchange in Washington, D.C. He returned to the corporate staff department in 1982 as manager-financial and external communications and was subsequently promoted to manager-systems development, Divisions and Subsidiaries at the Pittsburgh Service Center in 1984.

He was appointed comptroller for USX Engineers and Consultants, Inc. in March 1986, and was named general manager-administration & group comptroller for the U. S. Diversified Group in January 1987. In June 1989, Guna was appointed assistant treasurer-corporate (finance) for USX Corporation. He was named vice president-accounting & finance for U. S. Steel in 1990.

Guna is a member of the board of directors of the Central Blood Bank, The Institute for Transfusion Medicine, and the Girl Scouts of Southwestern Pennsylvania. He is also a member of Financial Executives International.
