USX Corporation announced today that Christopher J. Masciantonio, deputy secretary for safety and labor management relations for the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry, has re-joined the company as manager of governmental affairs. He succeeds John G. Shortridge, who will move to a new assignment in the Governmental Affairs department.

Masciantonio will be based in Pittsburgh and have lobbying responsibilities for Pennsylvania and West Virginia, according to Steven N. Sobat, director-governmental affairs for USX.

"Chris has developed many important contacts during his nearly six years in state government," Sobat said. "Many of these came about through building labor and management coalitions to resolve issues impacting Pennsylvania's economic progress.

"Additionally, Chris has broad experience in testifying before appropriation committees at the State Capitol. His familiarity with the legislative process will prove beneficial in his new duties," said Sobat.

Prior to joining the Ridge administration, Masciantonio was employed by U. S. Steel at its Pittsburgh headquarters as a labor relations attorney and later as manager of labor relations and productivity improvement at the Clairton (Pa.) Works. He also served on several committees for the company during the 1991 and 1994 labor contract negotiations with the United Steelworkers of America.

Masciantonio holds a BS degree in Political Science from St. Vincent College in Latrobe, Pa., a Master's degree in Public Administration from the University of Pittsburgh and a Law degree from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. He was admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar in 1989.

He and his wife, Kelly, reside in Jeannette, Pa., with their three children: Jillian, Christopher Jr. and Sarah.

USX Corporation employs more than 7,500 people in Pennsylvania and West Virginia at its corporate headquarters as well as steel making and finishing facilities, metallurgical coke producing facilities and coal mining operations of the U. S. Steel Group (NYSE: X).
