U. S. Steel Announces Retirement of Managing Director of Engineering Bernard J. Fedak

United States Steel Corporation (NYSE: X) today announced that Bernard J. Fedak, managing director of engineering, will retire after 19 years of dedicated service.

"For the past two decades, U. S. Steel has relied on Bernie's expertise for guidance in our engineering initiatives," said John P. Surma, president and chief operating officer. "His leadership and in-depth knowledge of steelmaking operations have played a major role in keeping our facilities up-to-date and running efficiently."

Fedak joined U. S. Steel in 1985 as general manager of plant engineering. During his career at U. S. Steel, he also served as general manager of engineering and general manager of plant engineering - sheet and tin before he was named managing director of engineering in 2002. Prior to his career at U. S. Steel, he served in several increasingly responsible managerial engineering positions for LTV Corporation and its predecessor, Jones & Laughlin Steel Corporation.

Fedak holds a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering and a master's degree in business administration, both from the University of Pittsburgh.
