United States Steel Corporation To Kick Off Annual United Way Campaign With Public Party

PITTSBURGH, Sept. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- United States Steel Corporation will kick off its Pittsburgh-area 2012 United Way employee campaign by hosting its annual Party on the Plaza event Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on the plaza outside the U. S. Steel Tower.  The event, which is in its seventeenth year and is open to the public, is the largest one-day fundraising event for the United Way of Allegheny County. 

"Party on the Plaza has become a tradition at U. S. Steel, and we are proud to host this event each year," said Tony Bridge, vice president – Engineering & Technology for U. S. Steel and chairman of the company's 2012 United Way campaign.  "This is just one of the many ways our employees give back to the communities where we live and work, and we take pride in supporting the United Way of Allegheny County." 

Games, raffles and a large, prize-filled silent auction are just some of the activities available to Partygoers.  All proceeds from the day's events benefit the United Way of Allegheny County.  The featured musical act is the U. S. Steel Band, led by George Babcoke, senior vice president – Europe and Global Operations Services.  Local celebrities will also be on hand to sign autographs and pose for pictures.  Scheduled to appear at the event are: Andy Russell, former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker (1963 – 1976); Judge Dwayne Woodruff, former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback (1979 – 1990); Mr. McFeely of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood; Sarah Arbogast, Marty Griffin and Kristine Sorensen of KDKA-TV; Stephen Cropper and Brandon Hudson of WPXI-TV; Iceburgh, the mascot of the Pittsburgh Penguins; and Steely McBeam, the mascot of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
