Timothy J. Lynch to Succeed Leslie J. Broglie as General Manager-Procurement at U. S. SteelPRNewswire PITTSBURGH, March 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- United States Steel Corporation announced today that Timothy J. Lynch has been named general manager-procurement, succeeding Leslie J. Broglie, who has elected to retire after 34 years of service with the company. The change will be effective April 1. "Throughout his distinguished 34-year career, Les has made important contributions to a number of disciplines at locations across our company, including his efforts as a member of the first management team at U. S. Steel Kosice in 2001," said Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer John H. Goodish. In his new position, Lynch will oversee procurement activities at all U. S. Steel facilities. He will report to Vice President-Procurement, Raw Materials & Real Estate Michael J. Hatcher. "During his short time with U. S. Steel, Tim has successfully managed key responsibilities and projects. We are confident that he will employ the same focus and commitment he has exhibited throughout his career in his new role within our company," Goodish explained. Prior to joining U. S. Steel in 2000 as a sales representative with the company's UEC Technologies subsidiary, Lynch, 37, held a series of increasingly responsible positions in sales at several Pittsburgh-area companies. After advancing to senior sales representative at UEC in 2001, Lynch transferred to U. S. Steel Kosice in the Slovak Republic in 2003 to serve as general manager-credit services. He returned to the United States in 2005 after being named manager-procurement operations and support. One year later, he advanced to manager-MRO procurement. He assumed his most recent position, general manager-business projects with the company's U. S. Steel Tubular Products subsidiary, in 2007. A native of Pittsburgh, Lynch earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Duquesne University in 1993. Lynch, his wife, Caralee, and their son will return to Pittsburgh from Dallas, Texas. Broglie, 58, and a native of Pittsburgh, joined U. S. Steel as a management trainee in the sheet and tin operations at Mon Valley Works near Pittsburgh after graduating from Drexel University in 1974 with a bachelor's degree in commerce and engineering. The next year, he was named turn foreman for the cold reduction mill at Mon Valley Works' Irvin Plant and held that position until 1981, when he advanced to general foreman. In 1984, Broglie was named area manager of the cold reduction mill and roll shops for Mon Valley Works. He progressed through several management positions in sheet products before he was named manager of APEX and special processing in 1993. In 1995, Broglie was appointed manager-sales and technical services for United States Steel International at Pittsburgh headquarters. He was transferred to U. S. Steel Kosice in the Slovak Republic in 2001 to serve as general manager-sales, and in 2002, he was named managing director-sales and marketing. In 2003, Broglie returned to Pittsburgh headquarters to serve as general manager-tubular products. He was appointed to his most recent position in 2007. Broglie is a current member of the Association for Iron and Steel Technology and is a former member of the American Iron and Steel Institute's Sheet Technical Committee. For more information about U.
