David S. Sutherland Elected to Board Of Directors of U. S. SteelPRNewswire-FirstCall PITTSBURGH, July 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- United States Steel Corporation (NYSE: X) announced today that David S. Sutherland has been elected to the company's board of directors effective today to serve as a Class II director until the next Annual Meeting of Stockholders, which is expected to be held on April 28, 2009. Mr. Sutherland, 59, retired as President and Chief Executive Officer of the former IPSCO, Inc., a leading North American steel producer, in July 2007 after spending 30 years with the company and more than five as President and CEO. Mr. Sutherland is currently a member of the board of directors of GATX Corporation (NYSE: GMT), a Chicago-based company that provides lease financing and related services to customers operating rail and marine assets; Transfield Services Limited, a corporation listed on the Australian Stock Exchange; and ZCL Composites Inc., a corporation listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange. Mr. Sutherland is a former chairman of the American Iron and Steel Institute and served as a member of the board of directors of the Steel Manufacturers Association, the International Iron and Steel Institute, the Canadian Steel Producers Association and the National Association of Manufacturers. A native of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Mr. Sutherland earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Saskatchewan and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Pittsburgh's Katz Graduate School of Business.
