U. S. Steel Formally Dedicates New State-of-the-Art Training Center for Mon Valley WorksPRNewswire-FirstCall PITTSBURGH, July 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- United States Steel Corporation (NYSE: X) held a formal dedication ceremony today for the new Mon Valley Works Training Hub in Duquesne, Pa. The fully renovated, state-of-the-art facility, which is located on a portion of the property once occupied by the company's Duquesne Works, will serve as the primary training site for employees who work at the company's three Pittsburgh-area Mon Valley Works locations: Clairton Plant, a cokemaking operation in Clairton; Edgar Thomson Plant, a steelmaking facility in Braddock; and Irvin Plant, a finishing facility in West Mifflin. "At U. S. Steel, the success of our company begins with our people. Training them to perform their jobs safely, effectively and efficiently every day is an important part of our efforts to be a leader in an increasingly competitive global industry," said Anthony R. Bridge, vice president of Operations -- East at U. S. Steel. "This facility represents an important commitment by our company to the training and development of our entire Mon Valley Works workforce." "The Mon Valley Works Training Hub is just one example of U. S. Steel's ongoing efforts to train our employees to perform today's jobs as well as prepare them for tomorrow's challenges," explained Lisa A. Roudabush, general manager of Mon Valley Works. The Mon Valley Works Training Hub is more than 32,500 square feet and is located in the Regional Industrial Development Corporation's (RIDC) River Place Industrial Park. A complete refurbishment of the building began shortly after a lease agreement was signed in November 2007, and the Training Departments at all three local Mon Valley Works facilities began a gradual consolidation and move to the new facility in December. The building now contains classrooms, meeting facilities, computer rooms and an auditorium. It also has two maintenance labs that allow employees to apply classroom theory in hands-on situations while utilizing a wide array of equipment that is found in the company's facilities. Every room is equipped with state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment that aids and enhances learning opportunities. In addition to serving as the primary training center for Mon Valley Works, the facility will also be utilized for a variety of purposes by employees from U. S. Steel's other Pittsburgh-area locations, including its headquarters in Downtown Pittsburgh, Business Service Center on the city's South Side, Research & Technology Center in Munhall, and the local operations of Transtar, the company's transportation subsidiary. It will also be the new home for Mon Valley Works' continuing education programs for both hourly and management employees. For more information about U. S. Steel, visit http://www.ussteel.com/.
