U. S. Steel Announces Additional Appointments to Tubular Business Unit

DALLAS and PITTSBURGH, July 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- United States Steel Corporation (NYSE: X) today announced appointments within the operations organization of its tubular business unit. Michael R. Chaddick has been named general manager -- tubular services, joint ventures and president -- Star Energy Group; James R. Massimino has been promoted to general manager -- metallurgy and quality assurance; and Jack A. Rosa will continue in the role of president -- Fintube Technologies, Inc. All three positions report to Joseph Alvarado, vice president -- Tubular.

In his new role, Chaddick will be responsible for specialized tubular services and tubular joint ventures. He will also oversee three subsidiaries that were formerly part of Lone Star's Star Energy Group, L.L.C.: Delta Tubular International, L.P., Delta Tubular Processing, L.P, and Wheeling Machine Products, L.P.

Chaddick, 60, began his career in 1969 as an inside sales order correspondent at U. S. Steel's Dallas office. He progressed through positions in the Houston outside sales office before accepting the role of general manager -- tubular products at Wilson Industries in 1980. Chaddick was promoted to vice president -- tubular products in 1982 and president of the company in 1992. He joined Sooner, Inc., a subsidiary of Oil States International, Inc., in 2000 as executive vice president and chief operating officer. In 2003, he accepted his most recent post, president of Lone Star Technologies, Inc.'s Star Energy Group, L.L.C.

Chaddick, a native of Pecos, Texas, earned a bachelor's degree in management from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1975. He and his wife, Linda, make their home in Kingwood, Texas.

Massimino, 51, will manage product technology and quality assurance activities for U. S. Steel's entire tubular business unit. He is a 30-year steel industry veteran who got his start at Bethlehem Steel in 1977 as a metallurgist in the welding engineering department. He joined U. S. Steel in 1978 as a product metallurgist at the company's Duquesne Works near Pittsburgh. He advanced through various positions in process and product quality assurance at Duquesne (Pa.) Works, National Works (McKeesport, Pa.) and Homestead (Pa.) Works before being promoted in 1986 to corporate oil country tubular goods metallurgical engineer at U. S. Steel's Pittsburgh headquarters. He transferred to Lorain (Ohio) Works in 1989 to serve as manager -- quality assurance for the facility's tubular operations. Massimino continued at Lorain while it was operated by USS/Kobe Steel Company, a joint venture with Japanese steelmaker Kobe Steel, between 1989 and 1999, progressing through various managerial levels of the quality assurance and sales departments during that time. In 2000, he was advanced to manager -- metallurgy and quality assurance for U. S. Steel's tubular products unit, a position he held until accepting his new role.

Originally from Plum, Pa., Massimino completed a Bachelor of Science degree in metallurgy at Penn State University in 1977. He and his wife, Marilyn, live in Cranberry Township, Pa., and have two grown daughters, Angela and Kristin.

As president of the U. S. Steel subsidiary Fintube Technologies, Inc., Rosa will oversee operations in Tulsa, Okla., Monterrey, Mexico, and Chonburi, Thailand. Fintube is the world's largest manufacturer of welded extended surface tubing and pioneered the development of high-frequency resistance- welded finned tubes.

Rosa, 49, began his career in Venezuela with Maraven (formerly a unit of Shell Oil) in 1981 as an assistant to the operations superintendent on a natural gas drilling platform. Between 1984 and 1991, he progressed through increasingly responsible positions at Gulf and Western and the Wiedemann division of Warner & Swasey/Cross & Trecker before joining EPM Corporation as president and chief executive officer. In 1994, he accepted the post of executive vice president at Met-Coil Corporation and one year later was named president of the company's Lockformer division. Rosa moved to the Electroid Company in Springfield, N.J., in 1996 and served as president for five years before accepting the roles of president and chief executive officer at Watson Machinery International in nearby Paterson. In 2002, he joined Weber Screwdriving Systems as president and chief executive officer of the German company's North American operations. He assumed his current role at Lone Star's Fintube Technologies, Inc. in 2006.

Born in Venezuela and raised predominantly in Spain, Rosa graduated from Montreal's McGill University in 1980 with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. He completed a master's degree in mechanical engineering in 1985 at the University of Pennsylvania. Rosa, his wife, Patricia, and their children, Simone and Andrea, reside in Tulsa.
