Commerce Secretary Evans to Visit U. S. Steel's Irvin Plant Tuesday for Town Hall Meeting with Steelworkers

U.S. Commerce Secretary Don Evans will visit U. S. Steel's Irvin Plant Tuesday morning for a tour and a "town hall" type meeting with local Steelworkers from U. S. Steel's Mon Valley and Clairton Works. Secretary Evans is a key advisor to President Bush and played a significant role in supporting the recently announced Section 201 remedy providing relief for the U.S. steel industry.

          Tom Usher, USWA President Leo Gerard, U.S. Rep. Phil English
          (chairman of the Congressional Steel Caucus), and others.

  When:   Tuesday, March 19, 10 a.m. tour and 10:20 a.m. Town Hall meeting.

  Where:  U. S. Steel Irvin Plant, Dravosburg.  From Pittsburgh, take Route
          51 South to Lebanon Church Rd.; take cloverleaf east and go to
          Camp Hollow Rd.; turn right at County Airport; travel on Camp
          Hollow about 1-1/2 miles; turn left into Mon Valley Irvin Works
          entrance; turn right at Y and proceed to main Security Gate,
          where you will receive directions to the General Office Building.

Media are invited. You should arrive no later than 9:30 a.m. for tour or 10 a.m. for the town hall meeting. Long pants and hard soled shoes required; hardhats and safety glasses will be provided.
