Braddock to Benefit From U. S. Steel Edgar Thomson Plant's Day of Caring Activities

On Monday, Aug. 12, approximately 60 United Way Day of Caring volunteers from U. S. Steel's Edgar Thomson Plant will be working on three separate projects in Braddock -- the Carnegie Library, Debra House and Good Shepherd School. The Carnegie Library of Braddock, the first library Andrew Carnegie funded in the United States, has been a long-term commitment for Edgar Thomson's Day of Caring volunteers. This year's projects at the library include landscaping, painting, and fabricating and installing ironwork. At Debra House, a shelter for abused women and their children, the volunteers will be replacing an outside stairway and doing concrete work. The projects at Good Shepherd School include painting, asphalt patching, and fabricating and installing steel shelves. Debra House and Good Shepherd School have also been continuing projects for the plant's volunteers.
