U. S. Steel Names Goodish Chief Operating Officer

United States Steel Corporation (NYSE: X) today announced that John H. Goodish has been elected executive vice president & chief operating officer, reporting to John P. Surma, Jr., U. S. Steel president and CEO. In his new position, Goodish will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of U. S. Steel's domestic and Central European facilities. The appointment is effective June 1.

"Since his return from Kosice, Slovakia, where he led the successful acquisition and integration of both USS Kosice and USS Serbia, John has dedicated himself to ensuring that our domestic and European operations perform at the highest levels of safety, quality, service and productivity," said Surma. In other management changes, Christopher J. Navetta has been appointed senior vice president-procurement, logistics and diversified businesses, a new position at headquarters in Pittsburgh. Navetta's position will include responsibility for global procurement, including the purchase and delivery of raw materials critical to our domestic and international operations, along with transportation and real estate activities. Prior to his promotion and return to company headquarters, Navetta had spent the last three years in Slovakia where he served as president of U. S. Steel Kosice.

David H. Lohr has been named senior vice president-European operations and president-U. S. Steel Kosice, and will relocate to Kosice, Slovakia. In addition to managing the day-to-day operations of U. S. Steel Kosice, Lohr will have responsibility for U. S. Steel Serbia. Most recently, Lohr was vice president-plant operations. In that capacity the company's domestic plant operations and joint ventures reported to him.

George F. Babcoke has been named vice president-plant operations, succeeding Lohr. Babcoke, who began his career with U. S. Steel as a laborer, will assume oversight responsibility for the company's domestic operations. Babcoke was named managing director-engineering and technology in September 2004 and moved to headquarters from Gary Works (Ind.) where he was general manager.

Anthony R. Bridge has been appointed vice president-engineering and technology, a new position. Bridge will be responsible for research and development activities at the company's Research and Technology Center in Monroeville, Pa., Automotive Center in Troy, Mich., and research facility in Kosice, Slovakia. Bridge will also oversee engineering for domestic and international operations as well as blast furnace engineering and technology.

Messrs. Navetta, Lohr, Babcoke and Bridge will report to Goodish. These appointments are effective June 1.
