United States Steel Corporation (NYSE: X) today announced that Lisa A. Roudabush has been named general manager-research. In her new position, Roudabush will oversee the company's Research and Technology Center in Monroeville, Pa., where she will be responsible for U. S. Steel's applied research, development and technical support functions and for keeping the company on the forefront of steel technology. She succeeds Edward J. Patula who will retire at the end of August after serving the company for 33 years. Her appointment is effective September 1.

"During her assignments at the Research Center, Gary Works and Mon Valley Works, Lisa has demonstrated that she has the leadership skills, commitment to meeting customer needs and the in-depth knowledge of steel technology necessary to fill this critical position," said U. S. Steel President and Chief Operating Officer John P. Surma. "We will depend upon her to keep the company on the leading edge of steel technology, which is key to our leadership in the value-added steel business."

Roudabush, 42, began working at U. S. Steel in 1982 as a student co-op at the Research and Technology Center in Monroeville, Pa. She joined the company that same year as a management associate at the research center and progressed through a series of increasingly responsible research engineer positions before she was named research manager for coated products in 1992.

In 1994, Roudabush was transferred to the quality assurance department at Gary Works as manager of technology planning. She moved through several different quality assurance positions in various areas of Gary Works before she was named quality assurance manager-sheet products in 1997. Two years later she was promoted to manager of technology for the department, and in 2001 she was promoted to manager-process technology at Mon Valley Works.

Roudabush earned a bachelor of science degree in metallurgical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in 1982 and has completed graduate-level work in metallurgical engineering and engineering management at the University of Pittsburgh.
